Copyright Regulations

In order to comply with UK copyright law, requests for photocopies must be accompanied by a signed declaration confirming that:

a) the copy provided will not be used by anyone other than the applicant, for any purpose other than research or private study;
b) he or she has not previously been supplied with a copy of the same material by this or any other library; and
c) to the best of the applicant’s knowledge, the same material is not required at roughly the same time by any other person, for substantially the same purpose.

The amount of material requested must also fall within the limits generally accepted as ‘fair dealing’. These limits are widely interpreted as follows:

1. No more than one single chapter from a book, or one article from a single  issue of a periodical or set of conference proceedings

2. No more than 5% of a given work, whichever is the greater
3. A poem or short story from a collection may be copied provided a maximum of 10 pages is not exceeded.

Please do not submit requests exceeding these limits.
