The Royal Academy of Dance offers a wide range of courses, classes and workshops for young people

Where we want to be...

Dance is an art form that crosses the barriers of language, race and capabilities and brings people together in a celebration of life and art. It is the most instinctive way to enjoy movement in its purest form and has been so since ancient history. Dance can have a profound effect on everybody: young or old, professional or amateur, able and less able.

The Royal Academy of Dance offers dance education, teacher training and notation programmes all over the world. We believe in creating opportunities to enrich the lives of young people and we do so by hosting a number of activities, competitions and events which provide learning, appreciation and performance opportunities and a platform to further their dancing careers via training and financial assistance in the form of bursaries and prize money.

We operate throughout the world both as charitable and not-for-profit organizations as well as corporate bodies, but in all cases we receive very little government funding.

We are extremely grateful, therefore to grant bodies such as the UK’s The Jack Petchey Foundation for giving us the chance create and sustain the Step into Dance programme, which now delivers dance to 150 secondary schools in 18 London boroughs. We hope with their help, and yours, to extend our community reach and continue to bring dance to those who would otherwise not have the chance.

The Genée International Ballet Competition is our flagship event and in one respect represents the pinnacle of the Academy’s work and its members’ achievements. It has grown in stature and popularity, but each year it becomes more expensive to stage and it is still, just one of many events that we organise throughout the year, all over the world. Unfortunately, there are occasions when lack of funding is a barrier to creating new and exciting dance projects and opportunities, or even being able to hold the competition.

We believe that every dancer deserves a chance to attain the highest levels of training regardless of financial income, geographical location and personal circumstances. Philanthropic support for scholarships and bursaries is the most rewarding way to secure the future of the next generation of dancers and teachers.

Donating funds to the Royal Academy of Dance is a wonderful way to help us to secure a future for dance, young dancers and dance teachers and to support the Academy in the fulfillment of its mission.
