Why become a member of the Royal Academy of Dance?

Whether you are a dancer, notator, dance professional, student or simply passionate about the art form, membership of the RAD can enhance your enjoyment of dance. RAD Membership affirms professional standing and offers support, training and advice to over 13,000 members, in 79 countries worldwide.


The RAD aims to support its members, be it through the knowledge, support and technical expertise of its highly qualified staff or the social interaction of likeminded enthusiasts at RAD conferences, workshops, training courses or summer schools.

Types of membership

Category Eligibilty
Friend of the Academy No RAD qualification
Affiliate Membership RAD Grade 6 or above
Full Membership RAD Advanced 1 or above
Registered Teacher Graduate of appropriate RAD Teaching Programme
Teacher recognised by mutual agreement IDTA Associate level (or higher) member in appropriate subject
