| Richard Thom
Richard Thom took up his appointment at the Royal Academy of
Dance in 1993 as Financial Director. During this time he has
published From Ballet to Business (1999) and Buying and Selling
a School. It was in 1982 that he obtained his FCA, Fellow of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and from 1985 until
1988 he managed his own company, RD Thom & Co, specialising
in Accountancy services. This was made possible due to his strong
sense of ambition together with an excellent academic history and
a wealth of professional experience. For 5 years prior to this Richard Thom worked for the Inchape
Group of Companies as a Finance Manager in Tokyo and Finance Controller
Guam MI. During this period his knowledge of international business
was heightened and in 1998 he wrote an article for National Westminster
Bank Plc, Taking the lead in International Payments. Richard Thom’s contributions to the arts in business stretch
much further than his role as Finance Director at the Royal Academy
of Dance. From 1991 until 1999 he acted as Treasurer for the Council
of Dance Education and Training during which time he was a Speaker
at the CDET conference, Building Bridges. His involvement continued
as Chairman of the Registration Board for 6 years and now as a
current member of the CDET Societies Board. As an experienced conference speaker, he continues to promote
the Royal Academy of Dance internationally and in 1992 he served
as a Keynote presenter at a British Council conference in Athens,
Greece. He is a dedicated member of the Executive Committee, Education
Committee and Benesh Committee at the Royal Academy of Dance and
in 1997 he took part in a television interview about the RAD for
a programme called Spirit of Dance, by Channel 7, Cable TV Cape
