Amendment of Royal Charter

The Royal Academy of Dance was established under a Royal Charter (‘the Charter’) granted in 1936 by King George VI. As the work and role of the Academy has developed over the years the members of the Academy have amended the Charter and Bye-Laws on four subsequent occasions. The Trustees have carried out a further review of the current Charter and Bye-Laws and have identified a number of ways in which they could be improved and updated.

The terminology used in the Charter and Bye-Laws has been revised and updated in order to reflect more accurately the world in which we live, learn and teach. Whilst subtle and semantic changes have been made throughout, the core aims and Objects of the Academy remain the same. Any changes to the Charter require the approval of the Privy Council. Therefore, the resolution that the members will be asked to consider and vote upon at the AGM will be to approve the Revised Charter subject to any changes that the Academy may agree with the Privy Council.
